| Head | Optimum 32–36 mm (70–80% of height, chin to crown excluding hair). Rejected only below 27 mm or above 40 mm. |

Rules
35 mm wide by 45 mm high. We export 827 × 1063 pixels, which is that size at 600 dpi, the minimum the German sheet asks for on a print. Optimum face height is 32–36 mm (70–80%). The sheet says to reject only below 27 mm or above 40 mm (60–88.9%). Children 9 and under use 50–80%; this tool does not switch bands by age.
Background is one bright color, ideally neutral grey, with contrast against the hair: medium grey for light hair, light grey for dark hair. No pattern and no shadow. The German sheet allows black and white or color. Color is the safer file. There is no EU-wide digital pixel or file-size rule. The 5 MB ceiling on our JPEG is internal.
Neutral expression, mouth closed, looking at the camera. Glasses are allowed only when the eyes are clearly visible: no tint, no glare, frames not covering the eyes. The eye-line percentage in the checker is our placement band, not a number from the sheet.

Do
- Pick light grey for dark hair and medium grey for light hair.
- Aim for 32–36 mm. The slider also allows the wider tolerated range.

- Print at 100% on a 4×6 sheet if the post wants paper. The German sheet asks for at least 600 dpi.
Don't
- Do not wear tinted glasses or sunglasses.
- Do not use a patterned or shadowed background.
- Do not smile with teeth or tilt your head.
- Do not treat a national passport photo as the visa photo. The visa size here is 35 × 45 mm.
